The future of energy systems. especially in Africa and South Asia, with particular focus on the domestic use of energy and the development of renewable energy.
Biography:
Malcolm is Professor of Energy Systems at the University of Oxford, Group Leader of the Energy and Power Group in the Department of Engineering, and a Student at Christchurch.
His interests are focused on the domestic use of energy, and encompass: the rapid rise of renewable energy systems in the developing world; expanding access to energy to poorer communities; development of user centric demand side management technologies; the provision of useful information to enable behaviour change; and designing energy systems that are well matched to the needs of potential users.
As Co-Director of the Institute for Carbon and Energy Reduction in Transport at the Oxford Martin School (2008-2013), Malcolm is co-author of the Oxford Martin Programme on Integrating Renewable Energy Synthesis Report. In 2009 he co-founded of Yasa, a successful company producing high performance, light weight axial flux motors for the car electric industry.
His earlier career was in Eskom, South Africa’s dominant energy generator and supplier, and the largest power generator in Africa.
