About GAWG

The Green Ammonia Working Group (GAWG) comprises over 30 international experts in clean, renewable energy systems, drawn from both industry and academia. Our membership also includes specialist organisations operating in the field.

We are united in our recognition that Green ammonia, produced using renewable energy, will play a crucial role in our zero-carbon future; and in our commitment to driving forward the Green ammonia revolution.

What are we here for ?

In our zero carbon future, renewables like solar and wind power will have to provide almost all of our energy needs - not just electricity, but fuels for heating, transport, industry, and power generation when the sun’s not shining and the wind’s not blowing.

To achieve that we need to be able to store up renewable energy where and when it’s abundant, to use it where and when it’s scarce.

Green ammonia is one of the best ways we know to do that on the necessary scale.

Our Mission

To catalyse faster research, greater investment and better-informed debate on the potential of Green ammonia to help the world reach zero-carbon as quickly as possible.

What do we do ?

Green ammonia has a transformational role to play in driving the transition to a zero-carbon future. But with climate change, time is of the essence. We can’t just wait for the transition to happen!

  • Our aim is to accelerate progress and guide the optimal allocation of resources.

  • Many key decision makers in haven’t even heard of Green ammonia.

  • There are regulatory barriers to overcome and safety concerns to address.

  • Key technologies have yet to be optimised, and need further development.

  • Enormous infrastructure investments will be required.

We’re therefore focusing on:

Supporting finely targeted scientific and technological advances.

Attracting investment into the Green ammonia sector.

Acting as an exchange for news, information and ideas in the Green ammonia community.

Reaching out through conventional and social media to promote wider awareness of Green ammonia.

Identifying and addressing areas of concern among investors and regulators.

Working with members to ensure that Green ammonia is part of the mainstream energy policy discourse.

As our network expands we aim to extend our activities to:

Promoting Green ammonia among decision makers in government, industry, finance and science.

Serving as a contact point for individuals and organisations working to advance Green ammonia.
