Dr. Phil Grunewald

EPSRC Fellow in Engineering Science, University of Oxford

Interests:

Helping to raise the profile of long-term storage needs, and the role of Green ammonia in particular.

Biography:

Phil is an EPSRC Fellow at Oxford’s Department of Engineering Science, and an Oxford Martin Fellow and Tutor at Oriel College, Oxford. He modelled whole energy systems and techno-economics of grid storage, before joining the School of Geography and the Environment at Oxford, where he leads the Energy Network, and the Flexibility Theme in the Lower Carbon Futures Group (Environmental Change Institute, SoGE).

A Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE), Phil uses data driven approaches to understand and change household energy demand. His team at the METER project collects rich and high-resolution demand data and train models to inform policy for a fast, fair and affordable transition. Phil advises BEIS on data and digitalisation strategies in the energy sector.

Prior to academia, Phil developed the world's first lithography tools for Intel as a Marie Curie Fellow, and laser processes for the photovoltaic industry.
