Biography:

Chris is a writer and researcher on the energy transition. His latest book, Possible: Ways to Net Zero, was published by Profile Books in March 2024, and his previous book, What We Need To Do Now: For a Zero Carbon Future, presses for a ‘renewables+hydrogen’ energy economy. He also publishes a weekly newsletter (carboncommentary.com) which focuses on news and current developments in renewable energy.

Chris was Chair of ChargePoint Services, which became the UK’s fastest growing installer and operator of rapid chargers for electric vehicles. He held the post from 2017 to 2019, when it was sold to the French multinational Engie. Until 2021 he acted as shareholders’ representative in the successful negotiations leading up to a deferred payout.

He is an alumnus of St Dunstan's College, University of Cambridge, where he read Economics. He later received an MA in Political Science at the University of Michigan, and was awarded his MBA by Harvard Business School in 1981.
