Biography:

Gerry is a Director of AFC Energy plc, a leading provider of hydrogen fuel cell technology to generate clean off-grid energy. The company’s mission is to commercialise scalable ‘fuel flexible’ fuel cell systems, to provide clean power for off grid applications. The technology, pioneered since 2006 in the UK, is now deployable in electric vehicle chargers and for applications in construction, data centres, and shipping sectors.

The appointment followed a four-year period as Director, Hydrogen Accelerator, and Senior Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews. He is among the world’s leading experts in fuel cell technology and systems.

He previously had a distinguished career at Rolls-Royce, where he served as Chief Technologist with Rolls-Royce Fuel Cell Systems, Executive VP of Engineering at Rolls-Royce Fuel Cell Systems, and Chief Engineer of Fuel Cell Systems. He was also Senior Fellow on the Rolls-Royce Council of Fellows, attending the Group Chief Technology Officer’s Technology Strategy workshops with the Group CEO.

Before joining the Board of AFC Energy, Gerry also spent seven years as Chief Technology Officer and Chief Technology Advisor to LG Fuel Cell Systems Inc, a manufacturer and developer of SOFC (solid oxide fuel cell) systems for stationary power generation.
