Tristan Davenne

Science and Technology Facilities Council

Interests:

Flexible generation of ammonia from intermittent power - Efficient conversion of ammonia back to electricity in fuel cells and gas turbines.

Biography:

Tristan was awarded his BEng in Mechanical Engineering at Bath, following a final year project on low NOx combustion from gas turbines. He then took a PhD at Cambridge focusing on nanoparticle formation and emissions from combustion engines.

He spent four years as a Senior Development Engineer for BOC Edwards, and 15 years as a Mechanical Engineer at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), including 18 months as a visiting researcher in energy storage at Nottingham University.

He’s currently the technical lead for the Green ammonia demonstrator plant at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, maintaining a wide interest in technologies for net zero: including longer term chemical energy storage in the form of renewable fuels; and mid-term thermo-mechanical energy storage.
