Biography:
Panos is Head of the Centre for Organizational Health & Wellbeing at the Health & Safety Executive Science and Research Centre. He works closely with world class scientists to help them to use their scientific expertise and regulatory insight to address a range of health and safety risks, for individual organisations or as part of a research programme.
His PhD in Chemical Engineering was awarded by the National Technical University of Athens. He also holds a Masters in Disaster Medicine and Crisis Management from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens; a MBA in Shipping from the ALBA Graduate Business School; and a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering from the Hellenic Naval Academy.
Panos served in Hellenic Navy from 1989 to 2011 as a Naval Engineer Officer, initially as Chief Engineer in Surface Vessels and then in shore-based engineering roles as a senior Officer, achieving the rank of Captain. His work in Hellenic Navy included engineering and operations management, damage control, CBRN Defence, health & safety, training and education and regional cooperation.
Since 2011, Panos has worked in research and innovation in a wide variety of technologies, collaborating with academia and industry into innovative ideas and projects. Panos has published 14 peer reviewed papers and 15 scientific conference papers. He is a fellow member of IMarEST; a Chartered Marine Engineer with the Engineering Council; and a Chartered Scientist with the Science Council.
